Here are some hacks to make your place look amazing at move out
Are you worried about losing a portion of your security deposit? These cleaning hacks will ensure that you move out of your current home without losing any additional money.
How will you get your security deposit back? These hacks will help you.
- Clean up any scuff marks from floors. Make a cut with a knife or scissors on a tennis ball. Rub the marks with a broom handle, stick, or a string. With a little pressure, they'll be buffed away.
- Remove mold and mildew from grout. Many building maintenance departments can remove mold for you if you report it. (You could be charged for a second treatment if the mold does not disappear with regular cleaning. Soak a piece [similar to what is used in hair salons] of a cotton coil in bleach and stick it to the moldy grout. The mildew will disappear if the cotton is left to dry overnight.)
- Repair the holes in your wall. You'll probably have several of these, especially if your flat-screen TV is mounted on the wall. You can use white toothpaste (non-gel) to fix the hole if it is small. Use a putty blade to smoothen the edges. Allow it to dry overnight. Then, smoothen any ridges with a piece of sandpaper. Caulk or spackle are preferred, especially for larger holes.
- Remove any grease and burnt food from the oven. Make a paste of baking soda and water to cleanse your oven. Let the oven cool completely before you take it out. Next day, use a damp cloth to wipe down the oven. Spray white vinegar on any hardened areas and then wipe off. Continue doing this until you are ready to order takeout. Keep going until your oven shines.
- Clean your microwave. Do you remember the time when your microwave exploded and that you forgot to clean it afterward? (Yes, we've all been there. Fill a small bowl that is microwave safe with half of it with water. Cut a lemon in half and put the squeezed juice into a bowl. Add the rinds to the bowl. For 3 to 5 minutes, microwave it. Do not open the microwave for 5 more minutes. The steam will loosen any gunk and make it easier to clean your microwave.
- Take out crayons from the walls. Tenants with toddlers might have more trouble. However, it is possible that your 20-something roommate or sister got a little too creative and got lost in the shuffle. Crayon is much easier than you think. Apply non-gel toothpaste to the crayon marks. Then, gently rub the crayons with a soft scrub brush or dry cloth. Use a damp sponge to clean up any toothpaste that remains.
- Clean carpet stains. Light stains (not wine) can be cleaned with a mixture consisting of 2 tablespoons salt and 1/2 cup white vinegar. Before vacuuming, let the solution dry completely. To get darker stains out, you can add 2 tablespoons of borax to your mixture.
- Spills from the refrigerator should be cleaned up. It's ok to throw away leftover food, but it's also a good idea for you to clean up any spillages or debris. We suggest mixing one teaspoon of baking soda with one teaspoon of dish soap and four to six cups of warm water. Use a microfiber or dishcloth to dip into the solution. Then, wipe down your fridge. While you're at it, give your fridge's front panels and door handle a quick wipe.
